Hunter Primary Care is proud to announce that we have once again achieved Bronze Service Provider status through ACON Institute’s Pride in Health + Wellbeing Equality Index (HWEI).  This marks the second consecutive year we have been recognised at this level.

The HWEI is an annual benchmarking tool designed to assess and benchmark LGBTQ+ inclusive service provision among health, wellbeing and human service providers in Australia.  Developed by Pride in Health + Wellbeing, a not-for-profit organisational support program for LGBTQ+ inclusion, the HWEI evaluates how well organisations address LGBTQ+ related needs and create inclusive environments.

This year, Hunter Primary Care achieved an impressive 88% on our HWEI scorecard, a significant 13% increase from the previous year.  This improvement earned us a Bronze Award and highlights our ongoing commitment to inclusivity and equity for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our progress reflects meaningful actions taken throughout the year, including the establishment of a Pride in Health + Wellbeing Strategic Steering Group. This group provides strategic oversight to ensure the development and implementation of initiatives that enhance inclusion.  Key achievements include creating a comprehensive Pride in Health + Wellbeing Action Plan and launching the Rainbow Network Consultative and Advisory Group.  Comprised of passionate staff members, this group drives the implementation of initiatives outlined in the action plan.

We are honoured to receive this recognition and view it as encouragement to continue our work in fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment. However, we acknowledge that there is still much to be done to improve access to health services for the LGBTQ+ community.  Hunter Primary Care remains steadfast in our commitment to this journey of learning and inclusion.

Together, we are building a future where everyone feels supported and valued in their health and wellbeing.
