Clinical Placement Inspires Future Nurse in Aged Care

At Hunter Primary Care, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals through our Aged Care Nursing Clinical Placement Programs. Recently, nursing student Princess shared her experience of completing her placement with us and the impact it had on her journey toward becoming a nurse.

Princess described her placement as an incredibly valuable and supportive experience, with facilitators who were available both in person and via Zoom to provide feedback, encouragement, and space for reflection.

“Each day, my facilitators created a safe environment where I could reflect on what I did well and explore areas for improvement. Their guidance was consistent, encouraging, and always aimed at helping me grow in confidence as a future nurse” said Princess.

One of the key insights Princess gained was a deeper understanding of aged care nursing. She came to appreciate that aged care is about much more than meeting physical needs, it's also about creating meaningful experiences for older adults, preserving dignity, and enhancing quality of life. She particularly valued learning strategies to support people living with dementia, including communication techniques and approaches that promote wellbeing. Interactive learning activities, challenging daily questions, and personalised resources such as visual aids and tailored PowerPoints made the placement both engaging and practical.

Reflecting on her journey, Princess said the program has inspired her to continue developing her skills and knowledge in aged care nursing. “This experience has deepened my appreciation for aged care nursing. It highlighted the many opportunities nurses have to make a difference” said Princess.

We are proud to provide placements that equip future nurses like Princess with the skills, confidence, and passion to make a lasting difference in the lives of older people.
