When Layla* reached out for support, she was navigating a complex and overwhelming period in her life. Through Hunter Primary Care’s Primary Mental Health Services Intensive Support Program, she accessed timely, person-centred support during a time of significant need.
Layla was experiencing domestic and family violence, facing uncertainty around her visa and legal rights, seeking parenting support for her youngest child and feeling increasingly disconnected from her community.
With the help of an Immediate Support Package (ISP), Layla was able to take meaningful steps toward safety, stability and connection.
Our Intensive Support Program team worked alongside her to provide holistic, wrap-around care, including:
- Rebuilding community connection by linking Layla with women’s support groups through Carrie’s Place, helping her feel less isolated and more emotionally supported.
- Accessing legal guidance through Legal Aid, providing clarity and reassurance around her visa status and the implications of an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO).
- Strengthening parenting support by connecting her with First Steps Parenting, where she is receiving guidance and practical strategies to support her three-year-old son with behavioural concerns.
With the right supports in place, Layla has regained confidence, feels safer and is better connected to the services she needs to move forward. Her story is a strong example of how integrated, person-centred support can create meaningful change.
