Hunter Primary Care recognises January 26th as Survival Day.

As an organisation, we acknowledge that some Australians who identify as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, as well as those who do not, have mixed feelings about celebrating this day. Some consider it as a day of mourning, whilst others mark the day as the survival of their ongoing traditions and culture. It is important that these views are respected, and that collectively we have constructive conversations about this history and seek ways to move forward together as a nation.

Hunter Primary Care recognises that people view history differently, and that by sharing knowledge we are better able to understand the different perspectives of each others culture. We encourage all Australians to do some research so that you are better informed, ask your friends and colleagues if there is anything you can do to support them on the day, or consider walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at your local Survival Day march.

So on January 26th remember to treat everyone with respect, listen and show understanding, because we are all in this together.

Hunter Primary Care Offices at Warabrook and Maitland will be closed on January 26th, reopening at 8:30am on January 27th.  If you or your loved ones need assistance during this time, refer to our Emergency Assistance page for crisis support services.
