Do you wake up in the morning and instinctively reach for your phone? It might be to login to get a head start on work emails, catch up on breaking news, or let’s face it, mindlessly scroll through Instagram for 30 minutes before rolling out of bed to start the day.
Rather than reaching for your phone, why not try tuning into your environment and connecting to the things in life that you are grateful for.
This year has certainly been different to anything that any of us have experienced before and in these ‘unprecedented times’ it may seem that there isn’t too much to be grateful for. While awe-inspiring, life changing-events may not immediately come to mind, it can be helpful to concentrate on the little things through a daily gratefulness practice. Practicing gratefulness can help you stay open to joy and celebrate the good things in life.
Simple strategies may include thinking of three small things that you are grateful for, such as:
- The sun streaming through your bedroom window
- The soft sheets you slept in
- The smell of a yummy breakfast
- The phone call or coffee you had with a friend
- The warmer Spring weather
- New music from your favourite band
Why not try practicing daily gratefulness for yourself?
