Comprehensive assessments to support a valid diagnosis

Hunter Primary Care’s team of experienced clinicians provide comprehensive psychological assessments to individuals aged six and over.

Our skilled clinicians follow national guidelines and use standardised assessment tools, which can support making a valid diagnosis and may also support applications for funding. Our services are tailored to the individual and ongoing support can be provided following the assessment. We aim to provide a safe and supportive space and ensure the process runs at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Assessments are offered face-to-face at our Warabrook office.

You do not need a referral from a health professional and can self-refer to this service.

Costs are valid until 31st December 2024. Actual costs may vary dependant on individual needs. A holding fee of $150 is required when booking your first appointment and will be deducted at completion of the assessment.

Participants under 25 years of age may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on ASD Assessment fees only. To claim this, the individual must have been directly referred to Hunter Primary Care by a paediatrician or psychiatrist prior to commencement of the assessment. The paediatrician or psychiatrist must utilise the appropriate Medicare item (i.e., 110 to 131) as part of their referral.

If you are an NDIS participant and would like to use your NDIS funding to pay for an assessment, we will require written confirmation of relevant funding from a plan manager or the NDIA.

What is the process?

Each assessment starts with an initial interview with our clinician. After this interview, the clinician will recommend the next steps based on your individual needs. Assessments are usually conducted over 3-4 sessions. Please allow up to two hours for each. These will involve interviews with the individual and people who are close to the individual (where appropriate) and the administration of formal, standardised assessment tools. At the end of the process, you will be provided with a comprehensive and personalised report.
