This year we celebrate NAIDOC Week from 2nd to the 9th July.
NAIDOC Week recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on Earth.
This year's theme is For Our Elders. Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in communities and families. They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and loved ones. They guide generations through advocacy and activism, and pave the way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take the paths they can take today.
To celebrate NAIDOC Week, Hunter Primary Care staff will be treated to an interactive cultural experience with local organisation Midnight Dreaming. Staff will be treated to an Aboriginal dance performance, weaving workshop and an art workshop, as well as lunch catered by Numa Ngarra.
