The focus for Diabetes Week 2024 is the impact of diabetes technology, with an ambition to have it available to all, equally.

There are many types of technology that exist which can contribute to the quality of life of those living with Diabetes.  In my field of work, which includes supporting regional and rural patients with diabetes education, as well as supporting NDIS participants, I have seen first-hand the improvement that access to technology has on quality of life.

One example that readily springs to mind, is a Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems (CGMS), which allow continuous measurement of blood glucose levels.  This monitoring system not only sounds an alarm if the glucose levels change rapidly, but it also provides insight into patterns and trends throughout the day and night.

If all people living with diabetes had access to subsidised CGMS, effective management of diabetes and quality of life would improve.  If you have the chance to encourage or support a client, a colleague, a friend or a family member to access this life altering technology, please do so.
