Yudhilidin, meaning 'guidance', is a recovery-oriented, client focused care coordination service delivered by Hunter Primary Care.

Funded by Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network, Yudhilidin focuses on improving the mental health, social wellbeing and overall health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with significant mental health difficulties.

The service aims to help improve the mental and social wellbeing of its clients by supporting clients to establish links to a network of specialist and mainstream supports within the local community.

"We are able to provide guidance via support and advocacy so that we can link people to appropriate services in the community at a time when they need it most," said Myron Olsen, Indigenous Mental Care Coordinator at Yulhilidin.

"When we first meet, we have a yarn to help identify key goals and guide clients to a range of culturally appropriate services which meet their needs. We are also able to provide advocacy, support people to make and attend initial appointments with GPs, allied health services, or other mental health support as well as provide a link to housing and homelessness services, employment and social supports."

The Yudhilidin service is accessible to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 years and older who have significant mental health difficulties which may be affecting their daily life including experiencing severe depression, anxiety or trauma and self-harm.

"Our goal is that by the end of the service the person will have the skills and confidence to manage their own health journey," Myron said.

Yudhilidin is provided in a culturally safe and confidential environment specifically designed to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.

"Our team have the knowledge and connections with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community which allows people to feel safe and supported knowing that staff can relate culturally," Myron said. "All are welcome to our program, so feel free to call and have a yarn with one of deadly staff or look at our website."
